Our WorkAs the leading inter-governmental organization promoting since 1951 humane and orderly migration, IOM plays a key role to support the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through different areas of intervention that connect both humanitarian assistance and sustainable development. In Estonia, IOM supports migrants through a variety of resettlement, support and protection activities.

The beneficiary is originally from a small village in Morocco. He arrived to Estonia, but failed to legalize his stay and thus opted to return back to Morocco with IOM’s assistance. He decided to use his reintegration support to expand their family grocery store in order to provide more variety commodities and goods for the community. The reintegration grant allowed him to purchase food and non-food items such as sugar, phone recharge cards, hygiene and sanitation products, spices, pasta, care products, office supplies and other. The whole family has benefitted from selling goods at grocery store and also the returnee has gained some experience from the partnership which also prepares him to take over the family business at some point as the eldest of the sons.
